The CaPQ strongly denounces the federal government's decision to seek removal from the Bill 96 lawsuit. "This action is a clear violation of the Canadian government's duty to defend the Canadian Charter," says Myrtis Fossey, Co-Leader of the CaPQ.
"It is deeply troubling that the federal government has incorporated Bill 96 by reference into federal legislation," adds Colin Standish, Co-Leader of the CaPQ. "Significant justiciable issues are at stake!" Colin Standish further added that:
"The CaPQ reminds Ottawa that protecting citizens' fundamental human rights is a federal responsibility. Bill 96 has overstepped federal powers by:
1️. Amending the Constitution, which the federal government incorporated into their official version this summer.
2️. Seizing federal labor jurisdictions in Quebec—an illegal move.
3️. Seizing intellectual property and trademarks."
