Sonia Mascote

Originally from Colombia and living in Canada for the past 22 years, Sonia Moscote brings extensive experience in politics, public administration, community development, and civic engagement. Her work in both Colombia and Quebec reflects a longstanding commitment to democracy, social equity, and the protection of individual rights. Before immigrating to Canada, Sonia served for several years in Colombia as a public servant, elected official, and community advocate. She worked with government agencies and non-governmental organizations, developing significant expertise in local development, women's empowerment, and supporting members of visible minority communities. Sonia's educational background is equally diverse. She studied Law at Externado University of Colombia and Community Development Management at the University of Havana in Cuba. In Quebec, she earned Attestations of Collegial Studies in Immigration Consulting and Event Planning and Management from LaSalle College, as well as a Specialized Graduate Diploma in Public Administration. She also participated in the School of Women and Democracy organized by Women and Democracy, including the conference "Feminism and Democratic Institutions." Since settling in Quebec, Sonia has continued her professional and community involvement through a variety of leadership roles. She has served as an advisor in the Duberger-Les Saules sector and as Executive Director of Carrefour CEIBA-Québec, the Inter-American Association of Jurists, and Women and Democracy. Her work within Quebec's health and social services network, including at the CIUSSS, has enabled her to work directly with diverse communities and build strong partnerships across the sector. For more than nine years, Sonia has dedicated her experience to local development, immigrant integration, and social inclusion. Her commitment to advancing the rights of women, children, and vulnerable individuals has earned her recognized expertise in community mobilization, communications, organizational leadership, and the coordination of projects and events. Today, Sonia seeks to continue this work through provincial politics as a candidate for the Canadian Party of Quebec. She believes that a democratic society must protect fundamental rights, promote fairness and equal opportunity, and ensure that every citizen has the ability to participate fully in public life. Sonia is particularly concerned about the housing crisis affecting her riding and is committed to helping develop practical, sustainable, and collaborative solutions that allow all residents to live with dignity, security, and stability. A proud Quebecer by choice and deeply committed to democratic values, Sonia believes bilingualism is a strength for Quebec rather than a threat to the French language. She is determined to be a strong voice for fundamental rights, inclusion, dignity, and democratic accountability while working to help build an open, bilingual, and inclusive Quebec within a strong and united Canada.
